Short and simple film, but strong on moment and emotion. Excellent actors. I’m not a fan of the cuts, but overall I found it a very interesting piece. I found this on Goh’s blog, and he sums it up perfectly:

“The scene here focuses on a older couple in what appears to be a afternoon stroll in the park. Always amazed at how such simple moments can reflect such an honest intimacy.”

Also, totally ridiculous that this only started as a test run:
From the vimeo page – “It started out as a test to put the Scarlet into a real life shooting situation and we ended up creating what could almost be considered a short in 3 hours time.”

I don’t think it “could almost be” – it is a pretty amazing little narrative.

I’m in Indianapolis now, making photos of a bad recording. Me and the lead guitarist got to talking about motorcycles and it made me think of this ad. Pretty sentimental for a motorcycle ad, but really beautifully shot.

Travel - Bed, corner. Blue sheet

Sometimes, when I’m on the road for stretches, I’ll wake up and not know where I am. I just won’t remember. Sometimes it’s fun – an adventure. I like to think I’m on an open ocean, adrift, liable to wash up on the shore of paradise. Earlier this month, it happened as I was heading home, and my blue sheets made a horizon to reinforce my sleepy illusion.

YouTube user Roy Prol created this fascinating animation that imagines what Earth would be like if our planet had Saturn-like rings. In addition to views from space, he show us beautiful renderings of what the rings would look like in landscape photos captured at famous landmarks (e.g. the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro) around the world.

I wish they had gone even farther with the science… Would they throw shadows across the earth? Make some months “duller” in different seasons due to blocking or straining sunlight? Would they effect the tides? What would their interaction with the moon be? Would the moon have mini-rings?

Totally neat concept, though…
