Remembering Nick

Remembering Nick – Images by Logan Mock-Bunting

I’ve really struggled putting this together. Nick is dearly missed. I’m heartbroken in losing a friend and so, so sad for those he loved and who loved him. I’m lucky to have known and traveled with him. He was a good man – funny, intense, deeply spiritual, caring. I hope these images can give folks an insight to him – much more than just a guy who could hold his breath and swim deep, he was a complicated person who ultimately just wanted to do his best. There are images in my head I wish I had in pixels – him dressed to-the-nines, walking down the road alone, starting the miles-long walk in the Cayman sun to get to a local church. Him laughing like crazy under a beautiful sunset about a stuffed speedo joke, him working over the stove to feed a dozen hungry divers. The man could COOK, for real.

There will be lots of stories about a meteoric rise and fall of a talented youth, discussions over risk and limits, but I want folks to remember and connect with the Man – playful, disciplined, imperfect but striving, and deeply, deeply Loved. Miss you Nick, hope you and your grandpa are together in peace.

Thanks Logan for sharing your Photo’s and memories of Nick. Having dove with Nick as a deep safety on a number of his record’s/ attempts I got to see his drive and commitment to his sport first hand. Nick was a truly gifted athlete with a passion for life. He lived to the fullest. Such a great loss of a caring compassionate man.

    Hi Logan,

This was my brother. Your tribute to him is very touching. Your words are perfect in describing him. I loved it!! The photos are ones I have never seen of him. If you would be willing to contact me, I’d love to discuss how my family and I can get a copy of these photos. We also would be honored to use them for the viewing and funeral. He will be greatly missed. I’m glad you did this for him. Very special!

Hi Logan, so sorry for your loss and everyone who knew Nick. The images you made are quite a testiment to Nick and the sport. I just started learning about the sport and think those who partake have so much passion and courage and love for the water. You portrayed that in your images and some are simply breathtaking.

So sorry for your loss Logan. Hugs and thoughts to you my dear friend.

This is so beautifully photographed and written. You don’t need pixels with the way you described is walk on the beach laughing and dressed to the nines. We can see it all so clearly here in our minds now. Thank you for sharing your words and images in such a great tribute for us all to see.
