I’ve really struggled putting this together. Nick is dearly missed. I’m heartbroken in losing a friend and so, so sad for those he loved and who loved him. I’m lucky to have known and traveled with him. He was a good man – funny, intense, deeply spiritual, caring. I hope these images can give folks an insight to him – much more than just a guy who could hold his breath and swim deep, he was a complicated person who ultimately just wanted to do his best. There are images in my head I wish I had in pixels – him dressed to-the-nines, walking down the road alone, starting the miles-long walk in the Cayman sun to get to a local church. Him laughing like crazy under a beautiful sunset about a stuffed speedo joke, him working over the stove to feed a dozen hungry divers. The man could COOK, for real.
There will be lots of stories about a meteoric rise and fall of a talented youth, discussions over risk and limits, but I want folks to remember and connect with the Man – playful, disciplined, imperfect but striving, and deeply, deeply Loved. Miss you Nick, hope you and your grandpa are together in peace.
